Dr. Diane Hillard-Sembell specializes in knee surgery and sports medicine. She received her medical education and orthopedic surgery residency at SIU School of Medicine. She then completed a knee and sports medicine fellowship at Kaiser Permanente and the University of California, San Diego. Board certified in orthopedic surgery, she was the first in the area to obtain an added specialty certification in orthopedic sports medicine.
An athlete herself in running, triathlon and Cross Fit, Dr. Hillard-Sembell is a member of the NIU Sports Hall of Fame and still participates. Professional memberships include the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the International Society of Arthroscopy Knee and Sports Medicine, The Arthroscopic Association of North America and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Hillard-Sembell was a recipient of the prestigious Honorary Membership Award by the National Trainers Association (NATA) in 2013. For her commitment to Sports Medicine, and has published research regarding knee ACL and collateral ligament injuries.
